Andromeda Watercolour Constellation A5 Painting + History Note | Greek Myth of the Princess

£25.00

Part of the ‘Myths and Legends’ collection, Andromeda originates from Greek mythology. She was a princess and daughter of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia of Ethiopia. Cassiopeia angered the sea god Poseidon by boasting that her daughter was more beautiful than the sea nymphs. To punish Cassiopeia, Poseidon sent a sea monster, Cetus, to destroy the kingdom.

To appease Poseidon, Cepheus and Cassiopeia chained Andromeda to a rock by the sea as a sacrifice to the monster. However, Perseus – fresh from slaying Medusa – appeared and used her severed head to turn the sea monster to stone.

Perseus and Andromeda fell in love and enjoyed a happy marriage. In honour of their story, the gods placed Andromeda in the stars as a constellation. It is often associated with romance and love triumphing over adversity.

This A5 watercolour comes with its own carefully researched History Note detailing the story behind the constellation. As Andromeda is closely associated with romance and love, she would make the perfect gift for a partner or a couple.
