Cetus Watercolour Constellation A5 Painting + History Note | Greek Myth of the Sea Monster

£25.00

Cetus, also known as ‘the sea monster’ in Greek mythology was said to have had small paws, the head of a dog and the body of a sea creature.

It was sent by Poseidon, the god of the sea, to attack the Aethiopian coastline as a punishment. The king decided to sacrifice his daughter to the monster but just as Cetus was about to devour her, Perseus appeared and killed it using the head of Medusa.

Cetus is the fourth-largest constellation in the sky and is best seen between late September and December from almost anywhere on Earth.

It contains Diphda (Beta Ceti), which comes from the Arabic word for ‘frog’ and is the brightest star within the constellation.

This A5 watercolour comes with its own carefully researched History Note detailing the story behind the constellation. As Cetus is closely associated with Greek mythology, he would make the perfect gift for a mythology lover.
